The Chinese Government: The Battle to Eradicate AIDS in China While the spread of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus has been a major infectious pandemic seen across the globe, for approximately the past forty years, the majority of scientific research seeking to study, cure, and eliminate the trajectory of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) that the HIV virus leads to, have been focused on the United States, Western Africa, and various islands in the Caribbean. While this specific research focus is understandable considering the commonly held beliefs on the geographic origin of the disease, the rapid rate that the disease spreads when left untreated, makes it important not to dismiss the evaluation of the status of the AIDS epidemic in nations not traditionally considered in the AIDS related conversation, such as in China. According to the latest statistics from the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), globally, â€Å"there were 35.0 million people living with HIV in 2013, up from 29.8 million in 2001 (The Henry J.
